Almost anyone who uses Twitter regularly has bumped up against the rules or terms of service at one point or another.
But if you’re sharing adult content or you’re a dominatrix, a sex worker, or a porn star, then there is even greater scrutiny on your account.
While some people attribute things like shadowbans, suspensions, and losing accounts entirely to Twitter support being biased, there are simple things you can do to stay within the rules of Twitter and stay off their radar.
These suggestions will not prevent you from penalties if someone is reporting your account or you share content that Twitter thinks is outside the rules. But by following these suggestions you will take care of some simple fixes that will help.
As a decade-long member of the Twitter community with a verified account, someone who shares adult
What follows is a brief list of simple fixes that will take care of 80% of the problems I’ve encountered.
Adult Content on Twitter
Here is what Twitter says about adult content, “We consider adult content to be any media that is pornographic and/or may be intended to cause sexual arousal. Twitter allows some forms of graphic violence and/or adult content in Tweets marked as containing sensitive media. However, you may not use such content in live video, your profile, or header images.”

This brief paragraph has a lot of useful warnings contained within.
1. Adult Content – Notice how Twitter defines adult content in the broadest and most undescriptive way possible. That covers their ass and allows them to arbitrarily pick and choose what “adult content” is to them. There’s nothing you can do about that. It means if you are sharing content that is on the edge or particularly
2. Sensitive Content – Do you have your account marked as sharing sensitive content? If you don’t and you’re sharing adult content then your account is at risk right now. It’s imperative you go into the settings for your account and make sure you have your content marked to sensitive immediately. I’ll go into that in more detail below.
3. Avatar, Header Images, and Live Video – I can’t tell you how many people have contacted me crushed because they violated this one rule and lost their account immediately. You may not under any circumstances put adult content in your profile picture, your banner on your profile page, or while broadcasting live video. If Twitter finds out, your account will be suspended at best or deleted at worst. If you have adult content in any of those places change those images now.
Being a Good Member of the Community
There are a lot of fringe activities that Twitter frowns upon that will get you into trouble.
Some of those things are;
1. Aggressively following or un-following accounts,
2. Repeatedly posting duplicate or unsolicited replies to other people’s content,
3. Posting unrelated content using popular hashtags,
4. Automating anything, particularly if it is frequent or aggressive.

Also, and I hope I don’t have to tell you this, getting involved in trolling activity or being an asshole can get you penalized too.
If nothing else these practices put you on Twitter’s radar and you want to stay as far away from that as possible.
Marking Your Content As Sensitive
Here is how to mark your content as sensitive on Twitter.
The easiest way to get this done is to go to a desktop computer. Start by clicking on your avatar at the top of the page in choosing settings and privacy.
Then choose the privacy and safety tab.
Finally, go to the bottom of the page under safety and look in the area titled tweet media. Check both “Display media that may contain sensitive content.” and “Mark media you tweet as containing material that may be sensitive.”
Checking those two items will allow you to see content that is marked sensitive by other people and protects your own adult content from being seen by minors or people who could potentially be offended, by placing it behind a banner that warns that content may be sensitive.
Most importantly it protects you from Twitter penalizing your account because you’re sharing adult content and you haven’t marked it as sensitive. I’ve had my content marked as sensitive on my account for well over half a decade now and it hasn’t affected my level of engagement.
Be Careful Out There
Following these rules won’t help in every case. You should still be careful about what you share. And getting in Twitter feuds can come back to bite you. Even then, you could have problems simply because you are in a vulnerable line of work. I wish that wasn’t the case but right now that’s the reality we live in.
However, by following these simple rules and by being a good member of the Twitter community you can help protect your adult account from getting suspended or banned for preventable reasons.
As always, Twitter could change their rules at any time, or interpret them in new ways. Follow the links I have provided above to keep up on current rules. And if I’ve missed something please reply below so everyone can learn from your experience and share this post to help your friends.

Great read good worthwhile info. Do you have any articles similar with Instagram ..new fan here! Thanks much
Nothing on Instagram, but that platform is ten times more restrictive than Twitter. You can’t share anything that’s even remotely restrictive. It’s better to use Instagram as a branding and recreational site and try to guide people to a safer site to share adult content.
